Providing  Alternatives to History Months in Early Education

Empowering Elementary School Children with Age-Old Wisdom and Signs of National Support over Trauma-Based Narratives

Our Mission

Golden Rule First is a national movement dedicated to promoting positive, values-centered education in elementary schools.

This is in contrast to the unintentional and dangerous messages sent in History Months that can unintentionally divide or discourage. We advance initiatives such as Golden Rule character education, Wings of Unity military flyovers, and Uniforms for Character school uniforms — all designed to inspire unity, respect, and personal responsibility among students. We emphasize the timeless principle: “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

Our mission is to foster a school culture where character, unity, and a forward-looking spirit empower every child to thrive and contribute to a more respectful, hopeful future.

Our website serves as a central hub for information, resources, and updates about our national initiatives. Join us in our mission to build a better future for children through ethical education programs.

Initiatives

“Explore how our unified initiatives are reshaping education to build confidence, character, and hope in every child. Together, they send a powerful message: their nation stands behind them — no matter what — regardless of:

  • The challenges they may be facing

  • The home or background they come from

  • The negative things they may see or hear around them

Through Golden Rule First, Wings of Unity, and Uniforms of Character, we create a positive, values-centered foundation for all children — helping them look to the future with pride, purpose, and belief in themselves.

  1. Golden Rule First fosters empathy, cooperation, and moral character in the classroom.

  2. Wings of Unity lifts school spirit and national pride with celebratory flyovers on the first and last days of school.

  3. Uniforms of Character promotes respect, responsibility, and self-investment through conscientious dress and a focus on academic growth.

Together, these efforts work as one — inspiring children to see their education not just as schoolwork, but as a path of personal growth, citizenship, and lifelong purpose.”

Replacing History Months with Age-Old Wisdom Kids Can Understand

Golden Rule First is a national movement to replace trauma-based history months in elementary schools with values-centered moral education grounded in the timeless Golden Rule: ‘Treat others the way you want to be treated.’

Our mission is to protect children’s hope, identity, and moral development by fostering character, empathy, respect, and unity from the earliest years of learning. Instead of centering young minds on historical trauma, we teach universal values that equip children to build positive relationships, engage in their communities, and look to the future with confidence.

Fostering Children's Confidence They Have the Support of Their Nation "No Matter What"

Wings of Unity is a national initiative advocating for patriotic flyovers on the first and last days of school in cities and regions with nearby airbases. We envision military demonstration teams — such as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and U.S. Navy Blue Angels — along with Air National Guard and local units, participating in this tradition of hope and unity.

The mission is simple: to show every child that their nation stands behind them. To give them a moment to look up — and know they are not alone. Wings of Unity fosters national pride, community spirit, and belief in the future — for ALL children, regardless of background.

Children in school uniforms

When children dress for purpose, they grow with purpose.

Uniforms for Character is a Golden Rule First initiative that promotes the adoption of school uniforms in elementary schools to nurture a culture of respect, focus, and self-development. By reducing distractions and peer pressure, uniforms encourage students to take pride in their learning, invest in their homework, and build the discipline and character that will serve them for life.

Founders Motivation

As the founder of Golden Rule First, this movement is deeply personal to me. I came to America from Bermuda as a young man, and I saw with my own eyes how Black History Month, though well-intentioned, often caused elementary aged African-American boys to disengage from the educational process. While many elementary aged girls were able to see and receive messages of courage and overcoming from Black History Month, too many boys left with an often repeated and devastating question:

👉 “What is the point of doing my homework if I'm only going to be disrespected LIKE THAT...for minimum wage?”

It struck at something fundamental in young boys — their natural provider identity and their emerging sense of self-respect and manhood. Instead of inspiring hope, it often left them burdened with anticipated dim futures, disengaging from doing their homework in favor of playing sports, and turning to "hood economics" as sources of income instead.

Years later, in the early 2000's, I saw the same pattern unfold in Bermuda — after the introduction of Black History Month in the school system, crime among young black males spiked within just a few years. Again, the pattern was clear: boys leaving elementary school, entering adolescence with no hope of respectable future earnings — already disengaged from self-investment, filled with anger and hatred, turned on each other.

This is why Golden Rule First focuses on elementary education. That is where young male provider identities must be protected — that is where all children must have faith that their Nation has their back -

NO MATTER WHAT:

- They See

- They Hear

- They Face

Young boys have shown they process historical narratives differently than their female counterparts in this regard.  A fundamental understanding of this difference sits at the heart of this movement with suggested alternatives that build:

  • ✅ Empathy and mutual respect (Golden Rule First)

  • ✅ Visible national support and unity (Wings of Unity)

  • ✅ Daily self-discipline and personal investment (Uniforms for Character)

This is not about ignoring history. It is about ensuring that our youngest children are given the moral and emotional tools to build their futures with hope, purpose, and pride in themselves and their nation.

If you share this vision, I invite you to stand with us — and help bring these positive changes to schools across the nation.
